Using Biometric Authentication

Log in to the app with Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint instead of typing your password.

Requirements

  • A phone or tablet with Face ID, Touch ID or a fingerprint sensor, set up in your device settings.
  • A Field Mycologist UK account.

Turning It On

When you log in: after you log in with your email and password, the app asks Enable Biometric Login? Tap Enable.

In Settings:

  1. Tap the Me tab, then the cog icon.
  2. Under Preferences, turn on Log in with Face ID (or Touch ID or Fingerprint, depending on your device).
  3. Confirm with your face or fingerprint.

Logging In With It

  1. Open the app.
  2. On the login screen, tap Use Face ID (or Use Touch ID or Use Fingerprint).
  3. Confirm with your face or fingerprint.

If it doesn’t recognise you, you can use your device passcode, or log in with your email and password as normal.

Turning It Off

  1. Tap the Me tab, then the cog icon.
  2. Turn off Log in with Face ID (or Touch ID or Fingerprint).

This removes the saved login from your device.

Security

  • Your password is never stored. The app keeps a secure login token in your device’s encrypted storage.
  • Only faces or fingerprints registered on your device can unlock it.
  • For security, the saved login expires after a while. If the app says your session has expired, log in with your password and turn biometric login back on.

Troubleshooting

  • Option not shown? Check that Face ID, Touch ID or a fingerprint is set up in your device settings.
  • Not recognising you? Check it works in your device settings, then turn the option off and on again in the app.
