Reviewing Community-Confirmed Observations

This guide is for Identifiers. When the community confirms an observation by agreement, it’s also checked by an Identifier. This keeps the records reliable while still letting the community confirm observations quickly.

What Is Awaiting Review?

When two members agree with the same species on an unconfirmed observation, it’s confirmed automatically. It’s then marked as awaiting Identifier review.

  • Everyone else sees a normal confirmed observation with a green tick.
  • Identifiers see an orange tick and the note Confirmed by community agreement, awaiting Identifier review.

Finding Observations to Review

On the website:

  • Your Dashboard shows how many observations are awaiting your review. Click it to open the list.
  • On the Observations page, choose Awaiting Identifier review in the status filter.

In the app:

  • The Home tab shows a banner such as “3 observations awaiting your review”. Tap it to open the list.
  • On the Browse tab, tap the filter icon and choose Awaiting review.
  • Observations awaiting review have an orange tick.

Reviewing an Observation

Check the photos and details as you would for any confirmation. Then:

  • If the species is right, click Confirm ID (or tap Confirm). This completes the review and the observation stays confirmed.
  • If it’s a different species, confirm the correct suggestion, or suggest the right species and ask another Identifier to confirm it. Confirming a different species updates the observation and keeps it confirmed.
  • If you’re not sure, leave a comment asking for more photos or information. The observation stays confirmed while you wait.

If it’s your own observation, you can’t confirm it, but accepting or agreeing with the suggestion the community confirmed counts as your review.

Tip: Reviews don’t need to happen instantly. Take the time to check each one properly.
