The Explore map shows the community’s observations, so you can see what’s been found near you.
Opening the Map
Tap the Explore tab. The Observation Map loads with pins for observations.
The Pins
- Green: confirmed observations
- Orange: unconfirmed observations
A legend at the bottom explains the colours.
Moving Around
- Drag to move the map, and pinch to zoom.
- Tap the recentre button to fit all the loaded observations on screen.
- Tap the refresh button at the top to reload.
- Your own position is shown as a blue dot if you’ve allowed location access.
Map and Satellite Views
Tap the map type button to switch between the standard map and satellite view. Satellite view is handy for spotting woodland and other habitats.
Viewing an Observation
Tap a pin to open the observation.
Location Privacy on the Map
- Open observations are shown at their exact location.
- Obscured observations are shown at their approximate point, a few kilometres from the real spot.
- Private observations aren’t shown on the map.
Using the Map to Plan
- See what’s been found in your area and when.
- Look for gaps where new records would be valuable.
- Find habitats where species you’d like to see have been recorded.
