App Privacy Settings

Control your location privacy, login and device permissions from the app.

Opening Settings

Tap the Me tab, then the cog icon.

Default Location Privacy

  1. Tap Default Location Privacy under Preferences.
  2. Choose Open, Obscured or Private.

It’s saved straight away and applies to new observations on the website and in the app. You can still choose a different setting for each observation. See Understanding Geoprivacy.

Face ID, Touch ID and Fingerprint

Turn Log in with Face ID (or Touch ID or Fingerprint) on or off under Preferences. See Using Biometric Authentication.

Device Permissions

Open your device’s Settings, find Field Mycologist and choose:

  • Location: “While Using the App” is recommended. The app only uses your location while you’re recording, never in the background. If you turn it off, you can still place your pin on the map.
  • Camera: needed to take photos in the app.
  • Photos: choose All Photos or Selected Photos to pick photos from your library.

Photo Location Data

If your photos contain GPS data, the app reads it to fill in the location. For Private observations it isn’t used and is removed from your photos when they’re stored.

Your Account

  • Edit Profile changes your name and display name. Email changes are made on the website.
  • Delete Account permanently deletes your account. You’ll need to enter your password. Your observations stay on the site anonymously, and your comments are removed.
  • Settings on the website, such as your profile picture, bio, public profile, licence and email notifications, are covered in Editing Your Profile. See What Information Is Public? for what others can see.
